From Which Medical Device

The Global AP prosthesis is a third generation implant, based on the Global Advantage system. Such prostheses are designed to replicate native humeral anatomy.

The stemmed humeral component may be cemented or uncemented, and aims to reproduce native anatomy of the humerus through the use of the native surgical neck for the osteotomy, as well as variable neck angle (+/- 15 degrees from 135), offset and eccentric head positioning.

The all-polyethylene glenoid is available in keeled and pegged versions, the latter displaying a large central finned peg, designed for bone ingrowth, to which it is recommended graft is added at implantation. There are three peripheral, cemented pegs.

The Global Advantage prosthesis has published 10 year survivorship of 86% (6 revisions in 82 TSR, 4 for glenoid wear, 3 of which were gamm sterilised in air). There are no long term studies of the Global AP prosthesis. I.A Trail et al “The Results of Arthroplasty in Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder JBJS(Br) 2006:496-501.
