Description

From Which Medical Device

The proximal femoral locking compression plate (LCP) from Depuy-Synthes comes in a Hook Plate (to provide fixation of the trochanter) and non-hook plate version. Screws are 4.5/5.0mm, with combi-holes in the shaft allowing the placement of either. The most proximal screw hole accepts a 7.3mm cannulated locking of cannulated conical screw. The second most proximal screw is a 5.0mm cannulated locking screw orientated at 110 degrees to the plate shaft. The device is manufactured from stainless steel.

In placing the hook plate, a 4.5mm cortical screw can be placed through the proximal end of the plate, aiming for the lesser trochanter. A tensioning device can be used distally.

There are some reports of failure of the device particularly where there is an unstable fracture pattern (see Evidence tab).
