10 minute renal tumour ablation

This short video shows ablation of a small renal transplant RCC. This is the same patient who had the ' open microwave ablation' . This tumour lies in the anterior hilar lip and is immediately adjacent to a branch of the renal artery. The ablation took under 10 minutes from start to finish with approx 30 minutes of CT time. This would not have been achievable with cryotherapy in this time. I initially aimed for 60 seconds then extended this out to 100 seconds followed by track ablation. This 4 minute video shows the use of the Emprint microwave ablation device to ablate a small renal cell carcinoma in a renal transplant. We decided that an open procedure may be safer as the bowel was draped and probably stuck over the anterior surface of the transplant. The options then were to either balloon occlude the artery to allow partial nephectomy as the vessels were located deep and were hard to access to clamp, or ablate the tumour whilst the bowel was displaced at open surgery.
