From Which Medical Device

SonoVue is an ultrasound contrast agent consisting of sulphur hexafluoride microbubbles and is used for contrast enhanced ultrasound examinations.

Its particular use in Intervention is for the evaluation of renal tumour enhancement prior to and 10 minutes post RF or microwave ablation. This enables us to assess any areas of persistent enhancement requiring repeat ablation. We have also used this agent successfully to assess enhancement in renal masses in patients who cannot receive iodinated contrast media for CT.

Excellent guidelines for the use of ultrasound contrast agents from the EFSUMB can be found here.
