Easy way to prep the coil is to push it out into the end of your 20ml syringe of saline for flushing. If the coil doesnt initially coil small enough then retract and give it a few seconds to soften up then redeploy, eg when packing a small aneurysm.

This newer hydrocoil softens immediately in saline and seems to pack better than the old version
