The MS-30 (Morscher-Spotorno) femoral stem from Zimmer is a cemented, collarless stem which is available in both matt and highly polised versions. Design features include three tapers and a rounded trapezoidal cross section. The purpose of the flange on the lateral aspect of the stem is to minimise compressive forces in that region and to increase rotational stability. The main aim of the design was to ensure an optimal cement mantle. 

The implant is manufactured from stainless steel (Fe-CrNiMnMoNb ISO 5832-9). 

In the 8th Annual Report of the National Joint Registry for England and Wales, the MS-30 had 2% of the market and an ODEP 10B rating, and was used most often with a low-profile Muller or Allofit socket.

In a series of 124 hip replacements using the matt version of the stem, survivorship of the stem at 10 years was 100% (Berli et al 2005). Other authors have reported 98.5% survival without aseptic loosening at 10 years for the polished stem and 98.8% at 6.5 years for the matt stem (Morschler et al). A more recent study of the matt stem reported 94% survivorship (for aseptic loosening) for the stem at 12 years (Witte et al, 2009).
