Study finds catheter-directed thrombolysis reduces the frequency of post-thrombotic syndrome

A study in the Lancet published to coincide with a presentation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology in December 2011 suggests that additional catheter-directed thrombolysis reduces the frequency of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) and improves iliofemoral patency. 

Tone Enden, M.D. from the University of Oslo in Norway and colleagues investigated whether additional treatment with catheter-directed thrombolysis using alteplase reduced development of PTS.
