This short video illustrates a useful technique for achieving rapid haemostasis after removal of a sheath used for a dialysis fistula plasty.

The small piece of plastic used has been cut from a vascular dilator (used with the sheath). I have seen this technique used in several centres and seems to work well.

The suture can be cut when the patient attends for dialysis.

An alternative and ellegant solution is the Merit Slip-Not suture retention device that can be used with their sheaths when the patient is to go straight to dilaysis post procedure.
