Description

From Which Medical Device

The Abbott Supera is a strong, flexible stent system. According to the manufaturer, it mimics the natural structure and movement of the anatomy and maintains a visibly round, open lumen for normal, healthy blood flow in challenging anatomy.

The device is indicated to improve luminal diameter in the treatment of patients with symptomatic de novo or restenotic native lesions or occlusions of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) and/or proximal popliteal artery with reference vessel diameters of 4.0 to 6.5 mm, and lesion lengths up to 140 mm.

Delivery of the stent is different to other stents, with the mechanism pushing the stent forward whilst you pull the delivery system backwards. This can give variable amounts of compression of the stent along its length and care needs to be taken to make this optimal.

The lesion should be prepared with angioplasty first with the balloon being at least the same size as the stent outer dimater to be deployed (see below).
