Product Description

(From Simbionix)

Simbionix ANGIO Mentor™ family of products features multidisciplinary simulators that provide hands-on practice, in an extensive, comprehensive simulated environment of interventional endovascular procedures.

The world’s leading endovascular simulator system, Angio Mentor comes in a range of sizes for all needs and budgets, enhances percutaneous procedure skills, and enables users to practice a wide range of interventional techniques, plus adjunctive pharmacology, patient monitoring and complication management.

An Ever-Expanding Range of Application Modules

Carotid Intervention Module
The Carotid Intervention Module simulates all aspects of the carotid stenting procedure, including stenting and balloon procedures using an embolic protection device, and monitoring of ACT levels, vital signs, and neurological status.

Carotid intervention module

Renal Intervention Module
This module enables users to practice renal angioplasty procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of renal artery stenosis using either a retrograde brachial or femoral arterial access approach.

SFA & Iliac Intervention Modules
The SFA & Iliac Module enables the practice of complete virtual PTA, SFA and iliac stenting procedures, including crossing the aortic bifurcation using a crossover catheter and performing a bolus-chased angiography to assess peripheral flow.

Coronary Module
The Simbionix Coronary Module is the only module of its kind so advanced that it allows each trainee to select from a variety of interventional devices and tools for the treatment of a variety of complications, including PTFE stents, microcoils and aspiration catheters.

Coronary module

Cerebral Intervention Module

The Cerebral Module provides clinicians an opportunity to practice performing intracranial aneurysm coiling and intracranial stenosis stenting, as well as reacting to relevant complications such as aneurysm perforation. The module provides a variety of common aneurysm locations, with variation in sizes and neck types. It features an innovative and unique simulation of a biplane x-ray system.

CRM Module

This sophisticated module provides significant training and practice opportunities in three, electrodes leads (LV, RV and RA) placement. The simulation, designed to help develop competence in electrophysiology interventions, includes real life sensing and pacing measurements and enables clinicians to cope with procedural arrhythmia complications, such as A.V block, VF and VT. The CRT module provides a variety of realistic anatomies based on real patient data including variations in the CS ostium (e.g. Thebesian valve) and coronary sinus vasculature.

Procedure Rehearsal Studio™ - Exclusively on Simbionix ANGIO Mentor Systems

Simbionix’s proprietary technology rapidly loads your patient’s CT and MRI scan data from a CD or local PACS server onto the Simbionix ANGIO Mentor. Then, the PROcedure Rehearsal Studio™ generates a digital 3D model of your patient’s clinically relevant anatomy from the scan data. This real-time 3D imaging system leverages the power of the world’s leading virtual reality endovascular simulator to create a simulated interventional environment that provides all the tactile feedback of a real procedure on a real patient.

The Procedure Rehearsal Studio™ lets you practice on your virtual patient as many times as you would like. That means you can plan the approach and address potential complications before performing the procedure on the real patient.

Just used this simulator today in direct comparison with a cadaveric flow model. It compared very well with a good degree of realism for catheterisation of the neck vessels and major abdominal vessels. I had some difficulty getting it to form a sidewinder in the arch and occasional glitches where the catheter did not register. It seemed more reliable than the Mentice device with which I have previous experience and the software/training packages are comprehensive.
A good aide to training particularly in learning the steps for changing catheters and how different shapes of catheter and wire can help in particular anatomies and clinical scenarios.

As a junior vascular/endovascular trainee I have accessed the
Simbionix ANGIOmentor (Express) initially for establishing basic
guide-wire and catheter handling skills, and then to practice endovascular
procedures. Complete with modules for carotid artery stenting, renal,
SFA, Iliac and abdominal pathology, the scope for training is vast.
From a junior level, it provides an ideal opportunity to grasp the
basics; the 'practice room' feature is best for this. From a
consultant level, I would imagine its greatest advantage comes from
rehearsing complex high end procedures such as carotid stenting. But
the opportunities are again impressive.

Trainers can build programs for their trainees to undertake, from
basic access to more complex stent deployment and angioplasty.
Programs can be tailored to the trainees experience level, and adapted
as the trainer improves. Each individual module is introduced with a
clinical scenario, and basic physiological parametres are displayed in
real time as procedures are undertaken, which adds to the models
realism

If unaccompanied by an endovascular trainer, the simbionix ANGIOmentor
can be set to deliver on-screen prompts and warn of technical errors
in real time. As experience builds, this setting can be switched off,
and full procedure breakdown and feedback is delivered post-
operatively.

Its obvious limitations include the loss of haptics and the chance
that the unsupervised inexperienced trainer could hone bad habits,
despite ANGIOmentors parenting setting. The trainer quickly learns
that wires and catheters dont need to be drawn completely out of the
machine in order to exchange, and this is again unrealistic.
Angiography seems unbelievably clear which we know from real practice
is not always the way.

In light of the pressures of reduced working hours and dwindling
training opportunities, this model is extremely easy to use, versatile
and a superb adjunct to the endvascular trainee."
