This 4 minute video shows the use of the Emprint microwave ablation device to ablate a small renal cell carcinoma in a renal transplant. We decided that an open procedure may be safer as the bowel was draped and probably stuck over the anterior surface of the transplant. The options then were to either balloon occlude the artery to allow partial nephectomy as the vessels were located deep and were hard to access to clamp, or ablate the tumour whilst the bowel was displaced at open surgery.
Percutanous ablation was also possible but we felt may have been more risky as there was a high chance that hydrodissection would not have displaced the bowel to allow safe ablation. This option was technically simple and so far appears to have resulted in an excellent ablation.
