Stents (bio-absorbable)
From Abbott Vascular
The Esprit bioresorbable stent from Abbott is designed for below the knee use.
Its the second generation of this type of stent with the previous stent Absorb BVS being withdrawn from the market.
This stent is made from poly(L-lactide), poly(D, L-lactide), and platinum markers.
It is a drug eluting stent containing everolimus to reduce intimal neointimal hyperplasia.
The stent is said to maintain its radial force similar to a metallic stent for 6 monhts.
In the LIFE-BTK Trial, Esprit™ BTK demonstrated superior efficacy compared to PTA at the 1-year mark, with a 30.8% improvement in primary patency and limb salvage.
We think s more valuable trial would be comparison with standard metallic stents.
