Rotarex® catheters detach, aspirate, cut-down and carry away occlusion material in acute to chronic occlusions.

The catheter head consists of two overlying cylinders with side openings. The inner cylinder is fixed to the catheter shaft, the outer cylinder to a rotating helix running through the whole length of the catheter and driven by an electric motor at 40 000 - 60 000 rpm (depending on the catheter type).

When the motor is activated, the helix and the catheter head start rotating. The facets at the foremost tip of the catheter head detach occlusion material. The rotating helix produces negative pressure. Detached occlusion material is aspirated into the side openings of the catheter head. Inside of the catheter head, the fragments are broken down to micro-particles and then transported to the outside by the helix. No additional liquids are required.
