This was our first case of renal sympathetic denervation using the Ardian (Medtronic) Symplicity Catheter . The procedure is simple but there are various points of technique that need to be adhered to for successful ablation. The aim is for a spiral of ablation points around the renal artery from distal to proximal. We found that the more proximal ablations were the most painful and required careful titration of analgesia. We were guided in this procedure by Louise Fountaine of Medtronic.
