The Triathlon is a single radius knee system and probably one of my favourite knee systems to use. Having previously used PFC and NexGen systems it took a little while to get used to the Triathlon but some clear bonuses for me were the single radius, reliable jigging and pin fixation and the ease of insertion of the trial and definitive inserts. The tibial baseplate is relatively thin and feels somewhat less bulky or even flimsy compared to other designs but has the great advantage of permitting more conservative bone cuts. Also the single radius design, at least in my hands virtually guarantees good range of movement and stability thoughout the range.
Overall an excellent knee prosthesis in my opinion.

Indications for TS version of Triathlon:
• Revision of previous unsuccessful knee replacement or other procedure.
• Fracture of the distal femur and/or proximal tibia
that cannot be stabilized by standard fracture
management techniques.
• Ligamentous instability requiring implant bearing
surface geometries with increased constraint.
• Severe anteroposterior instability of the knee joint.
• Severe instability of the knee secondary to compromised collateral ligament integrity or function.

The device was a runner-up in the orthopaedics category of Which Medical Device of the Year 2012.
Our device nominator said, "The fastest growing, lowest revised knee on the market with the strongest least wear resistant poly (X3) along with its single radius design made for the most impactful medical design product in 2012."
We said, "The Triathlon knee is an excellent device with established outcomes. The GetAround Knee branding is part of a direct to patient marketing campaign in the USA. We like the Triathlon knee, but aren't aware of evidence that outcomes are better than for other designs, so far as least."
