Pleurx drain insertion
Added 08 June 2021

This 9 minute video shows my technique for insertion of a pleurx drain for drainage of ascites. The other video here is an older version. The technique is essentially the same. The advantage of the pleurx and other similar drains is that the patient can manage their ascites at home without the need for repeated hospital admissions. Pleurx drain insertion
Added 26 July 2010

This short video demonstrates our technique for insertion of a pleurx drain for malignant ascites. This patient had a current drain in situ in the midline (due to abdominal wall hernias). This drain had stopped working after 9 months and a new drain was inserted. Dr Phil Haslam, Consultant Interventional Radiologist Dave Briarley, Radiographer (cameraman) Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne
