A further comment. If dilating a pre-existent nephrostomy tract, the balloon will not necessarily be able to develop enough radial force to overcome the scarring. The Bard alternative is able to tolerate higher inflation pressures but is significantly more costly.

Quick. More expensive than the metal dilators in the long run. Cant dilate right up to the stone so no good for staghorns and anywhere where you need to get right to the stone at the edge of the system.
