From Which Medical Device

Radiation protection is becoming ever more topical particularly with the new lower ‘safe’ eye limits being introduced. Eye protection is very important. The most effective protection is a well place screen between your head and the scattered radiation from the patient. The effects of this are well illustrated in our short video using the Raysafe real time dosimetry system.

Screens are not perfect and not always easy to place so good glasses are also important. These need to be close fitting and give side protection to minimise indirect lens dose.  At CIRSE 2016, our Editor-in-Chief, Dr Phil Haslam found two good candidates that he found comfortable (his current glasses need replacing).

MDT XRAY's Gentle 90 are carbon fibre lookalike glasses that had adjustable length arms. The soft legs and the angle of the frame are adjustable and the weight is just 83 grams. The glasses are available without prescription, with single vision, bifocal and progressive prescription. They are available for prescription from -5.00 to +6.00 depending on cylinder.
