From Which Medical Device

This device was shown at CIRSE 2016, in Barcelona. Our Editor-in-Chief, Dr Phil Haslam was there and he said, "There were a lot of devices in this field on the exhibition floor. One that caught my eye was the CAS-ONE IR stereotactic guidance device from the Swiss company, Cascination".

"They claim this is GPS for intervention. I saw this demonstrated on their stand and attended several sessions where it was mentioned. The device uses optical markers on the patients skin and on an ‘aiming arm’ attached to the CT scanner gantry. The supplied computer and monitor system allow precise needle angulation and trajectory planning on the CT image using cameras/sensors aimed at the markers. The trajectory is overlaid onto the CT image in multiple planes and in 3D. This can allow for some unusual angles. I saw it used for multiple overlapping ablations in the liver. It is probably most useful for liver/pancreas and metastases."
