Tips & Tricks

My port after almost 2 years, is not as \"supported\" , the injectable port itself, moves freely side to side, whereas it sit nice and snug before. I started seeing and feeling this , and it was mentioned by the IV specialist that it was \"very easy to move side to side making it harder to hold in place while placing Huber needle\", this has also made it so when flushed through with saline or having infusion, all goes through well, however, when trying to do a blood withdrawal or pullback of saline during flushing, there is a hard time getting any blood to come back through. I have found that moving my head (turning, leaning forward or back at neck) or lifting arm, then there is a decent pullback for flushing or blood work, etc. The assumption is there is a\" kink \" somewhere, as if it were \"sludge\", there wouldn\'t be any blood pullback at all. Any suggestions to make this flow properly or if it needs to be snugged down somehow, would be greatly appreciated. Infusion was started to clean sludge in case there was some present, but allergic reaction to infusion occurred. Have had accessed and blood work since then, and just used \" tips above\" for successful blood draws.
