Medtronic has received FDA clearance for its new Aquamantys3 BSC 9.1S Bipolar Sealer with Cutting. The device performs haemostatic sealing and coagulation of soft tissue and bone and allows the surgeon to use it as a cutting instrument as well.

Bringing two tools into one and not having to switch between instruments while the blood is flowing saves on time for the surgeon. Reductions in blood loss during surgery have been linked to reduced blood transfusion rates and decreased hospital ength of stay.
