This video shows the technique for intrahepatic infusion of Islet cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus.

This patient has had a previous Islet cell transplant several years earlier with good improvement in glycaemic control. This had eventually failed requiring this second transplant.

The technique is very similar to PTC, but in this case the portal vein is accessed rather than the biliary system.

Islet cell transplantation can give up to 80% 1 year freedom from insulin.
