Trochanteric entry nail from B Braun Aesculap which has specific features different from the offerings of other companies. Somewhat underrated in my view andd unpoular with some of my colleagues it has some innovative aspects which make it a reasonable option as a nail system.
1. Trochanteric entry with either a corer over a pin or using an awl gives choice.
2. A profiler prepares the proximal femur so you have a reliable idea where the nail will sit
3. The anti-rotataion pin is a helpful aide to reduce cut-out.
4. The nail is longer than most other proximal femoral nails and possesses 2 screws allowing its use in fractures with some slight distal extension.
5. The screwdrivers have a patented locking mechanism which helps prevent loss of the screws in the tissues around the proximal femur.6. The lag screws lock into the nail laterally and are extensible by about 5-10mm
There is a learning curve to using the device but overall I think it is a reasonable nail and represents a different approach to the offerings from the other major players.
