This newer device is a retrograde step. Its much harder to pull the handle outwards to load the device and the core also seems to adhere to the end of the needle more when trying to get it into the pot.
The older design is easier to use. The single top fire button was never an issue for me

We\'ve used the older style biopince for years and get consistent large volume cores. This newer version gives a second option to fire the needle with a button lower down on the handle. This certainly broadens its usability as some people found the button on the top of the handle hard to use once in position to take the sample.
