The MIHR International Hip Resurfacing is a cast high-carbon cobalt chrome metal-on-metal hip resurfacing device intended to facilitate “small incision” surgery, and which has an appropriately specialised set of instruments for doing so. These include a retractor, femoral head targeting device and an angled acetabular reamer and impactor.
The socket has an “ultra-rough” Accentus HA coating (Accentus is a UK company specialising in coatings for orthopaedic implants) and ridges to resist rotation and pull-out. The introducer depends on a machined rim on the inside of the socket, and therefore correct positioning of the component is particularly important.
The device was the 11th most implanted in the England and Wales National Joint Registry in 2008, with less than 1% of the market, and was rated pre-entry by ODEP. We are not aware of published results.
