This patient has a large pseudoaneurysm arising from his left brachial artery following a needling attempt for dialysis. It failed to spontaneously thrombose and was large therefore requiring treatment. We pioneered this treatment in Newcastle but rarely apply it to the upper limb: Dr G Priona Dr P Haslam H W Loose, P J Haslam: The management of peripheral artery aneurysms using percutaneous injection of fibrin adhesive. British Journal of Radiology 01/1999; 71(852):1255-9., DOI:10.1259/bjr.71.852.10318997 Richard J.T. Owen, Philip J. Haslam, Simon T. Elliott, John D.G. Rose,...
This video shows the novel treatment of a post renal biopsy haemorrhage with percutaneous thrombin injection. The patient bled immediatley post biopsy and ultrasound showed a rapidly expanding haematoma. Given this observation it is difficult not to take action although this may have settled conservatively. We know that percutaneous thrombin injection is safe and we have been using this treatment in our centre for pseudoaneurysms since 1996. A percutaneous injection was an easy option that clearly solved the problem without the need for angiography. Dr Phil Haslam, Consultant...
Topical application in a posterior lumbar interbody fusion
The components used are the human thrombin and calcium chloride solution from the Tisseel kit . A further description of the components and actions can be found in the video 'thrombin injection splenic artery pseudoaneurysm.' Dr Hilary White, Interventional Fellow Dr Phil Haslam, Consultant Interventional Radiologist Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK Ultrasound performed using Zonare Z.one
This video demonstrates the use of thrombin in the percutaneous treatment of a narrow necked splenic artery pseudoaneurysm: The thrombin component of Tisseel was used. The first reported cases of thrombin injection for aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms were in 1986: Cope C, Zeit R. Coagulation of Aneurysms by Direct Percutaneous Thrombin Injection. AJR 1986;147:383-7. Since then we reported our experience using percutaneous thrombin injection with and without balloon occlusion of the parent vessel: Loose HW,.Haslam...
